Vim Style set up for the Ultimate Hacking Keyboard
June 22, 2018
I have finally received my Ultimate Hacking Keyboard (some years after signing up for the crowd funding campaign). I went for the Cherry brown switches which have a nice solid feel when typing without being overly noisy.
Being a long time vim user, I wanted to set it up to work with my muscle memory and I thought I’d share what I did (having not found much else out there via google). So I dived into the Agent - which is a nicely put together app that makes it very easy to mess around with my own config.

Base Layer
- disable switching to test mode
- escape rather than mouse
- use the left space as the mouse key

Mod Layer
Obviously I want God Bram intended. So on the Mod layer, then become the cursor keys.
- PgUp, PgDn, Home, End
- …

Mouse Layer
- h, j, k, l again
- scroll with the keys above
- left click wrong way round on the wrong hand?!?
- clicks below hjkl
- but keep one left click on left half for drag and drop

Not played with it yet much.

Other Settings
Turn down the brightness. Very bright, but appreciated the option to be able to turn it down :)
